Marble Veneering of Pilasters at St Lawrence Parish Church
The marble pilasters in the nave of the The Collegiate Church of St Lawrence exhibit severe signs of deterioration. The marble slabs cladding most of the pilasters exhibit various cracks along their length as well as severe detachment from the masonry pilaster. Restoration works, which are currently being undertaken, were preceded by thorough documentation. The marble slabs will be dismantled carefully in order to enable restoration works, which shall include desalination and consolidation of the fragmented marble slabs, using appropriate epoxy resins. A sacrificial layer will be applied to the masonry pilaster prior to re-attaching the marble slabs in order to achieve a high degree of reversibility.
